With the morphers now ready, I was in a position to add some additional features to the mouthes of the 2 aliens. Whilst I initially thought on teeth and tongues for both... the expressions used only seemed to warrant the necessity of teeth for Carl, and a tongue for Kris.
Carl's teeth were exceptionally easy to create. They are made from a single cylinder, compressed along one axis to create an oblong shape instead of a cirle, and then cloned to create a healthy row of gnashers. The last step was to rotate and move them slightly so the row moved in an arc (As opposed to a perfectly straight line). Clone the set and Carl now had some teeth.
Now how would the teeth work with the morphers? Easy - They're hidden from view most of the time, and I can literally move them into view when I need them. If I want one expression to show the teeth more, I can move them in place - if not, I can keep them hidden. The main thing I need to ensure is that I do not move the teeth without moving the mouth in some way (After all, teeth moving on their own would look out of place - However, if I move them into place as I move the mouth, it creates the impression of movement of a non-existant jaw.
Luckily, with a small bit of rotation, the teeth worked well to create the 'biting lip' expression. The expression would have looked ridiculous without them.
And they also fit together nicely for the grin. I'd also like to take this moment to point out how weak a smile looks when the face isn't with it. The above picture looks odd for some reason (Aside from the fact that it's a dumpy green alien) - And that's because only the mouth is smiling... the rest of the face is blank. The result is a really, really weird expression.
Kris' purple tongue was a simple sphere flattened to the shape of a Smartie. Like Carl's teeth, this can stay hidden within the mesh for a lot of the animation until I require it.
And with these finished details - The models of Carl and Kris are finally complete!
