Some Reference Material (At last!)

I have never hated YouTube as much as I do now, when looking for some all-important reference videos for this assignment. What you would suspect would surely be commonplace on the popular website is unusually rare, particularly in a clear and comprehensible format.

The initial idea of trying to open a box proved un-workable, due to the distinct lack of relevant videos. Needless to say, it was a particularly niche idea that wouldn't exactly be expected to be videoed in a professional manner. So I shot for something a little bit more 'regular' - The 2 aliens (Now called Carl & Kris) having an argument. Great opportunity for a lot of body language! Could I actually find a good argument to mimic? Shockingly - no. The only arguments were either a professional debate or a poorly-filmed rant.

So a re-think to the whole scheme was called for. Once again, something simple was needed... I started throwing around the idea of a parlour game - cards or a board game. The idea seemed quite nice. Plenty of opportunity to work out thinking poses and to incorporate the fidgetting that goes on during such things. One of my class-mates is doing a card-game however, so I decided to go for my old love: Chess. Luckily, there was a nice selection of videos of chess games in action, with plenty of small moments of little fidgets and movements (Stroking the chin, twiddling with a chess piece between thumb and forefinger, scratching the head, steepling the hands)... plenty for me to work with!

As an added bonus... I could easily have one of the aliens win the chess game and burst into a flamboyant and over-the-top celebration. YouTube isn't short of celebration compilations... but this one in particular caught my eye...
